This was one of the most painful losses to watch this season. A number of the JV players were called up for the game, including starting pitcher Will Brenn (also leftfielder Matt Miller and pinchhitter Seth Ryan got into the game). Brenn pitched 5 strong innings, leaving the game with a 3-1 lead that was squandered in the bottom of the 6th when North Plainfield tied the score 3-3.
To start the top of the 7th Nick Abbott led off, and with 2 strikes, hit a ball that would have been a home run in deep centerfield if there were a fence. Abbott had to settles for a triple. After Kyle Fries and Joe Weil walked, Nick Oristanio drove in Abbott with a single, but a great throw by the center fielder cut down Fries trying to score from 2nd. Summit ultimately scored 2 runs to take a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the 7th. Sadly, we gave up 3 runs to lose, with a walk turning into the tying run on an infield error with 2 outs, and then a bloop single, that looked like it might have been caught, falling in to drive in the game winner.
