Hit batters: Fries(1)
This was really a tough one to lose. Summit carried a 7-1 lead into the 5th inning and things were looking good. Andrew Oristanio had his A game going against a strong Union Catholic team who entered the game with an 8-3 record. Through 4 innings Oristanio had given up only one run on four hits. The UC fifth the leadoff singled but was erased by a fielder's choice. A wild pitch moved the runner to 2nd. The next batter hit a grounder to the third which was fielded well, but a momentary indecision delayed the throw to 1st and the runner was safe instead of being the 2nd out. That seemed to change the dymanics of the inning. Four hits and a sacrifice fly allowed 5 runs to score, before the final strikeout ended the inning. The score was now 7-6 in favor of Summit going into the 6th.

James Baumeister took the mound to start the 6th. He walked the first batter but struck out the next batter. That brought up the top of the order who promptly singled, putting runners on 1st and 3rd with one out. It also brought in Matt DeWald to take over the pitching. A walk loaded the bases. Now, with the infield drawn in, a ground ball up the gap got through and 2 runs scored. DeWald struck out the final 2 batters to end the inning, but the damage had been done. Union catholic was now on top 8-7. Summit had a base runner in each of the final two innings, but was unable to score.

Summit scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning via Walks to Andrew Perry, Baumeister and Nick Abbott , a single by Tanner Fulton, a walk to Joe Weil and a hit batter(Kyle Fries). Four more runs came in the 3rd when DeWald drew a lead off walk, Perry singled and Baumeister was safe on a error. With the bases loaded Nick Abbott laid down a perfect bunt on a suicide squeeze and managed to beat out the throw. Fulton laid down a nice sacrifice bunt and Weil deliverd a 2 RBI single. Union Catholic brought in a new pitcher to start the 4th inning and he completely shut down the Summit offense, allowing only 1 hit over the final four innnings.
