It was good to get back to playing baseball again and Union Catholic's new field provides fans with the best viewing of any high school we play. However, the Vikings weren't very hospitable. They jumped all over Summit in the first inning with 3 runs and then added 4 more in the 4th to take a 7-0 lead. Summit did manage a pair of runs in the 5th and 2 more in the 7th. But, the Union Catholic pitching held Summit to 4 hits and the outcome was never really in doubt after the 4th inning.
Summit's 2 runs in the 5th resulted when Kyle Fries got on with fielder's choice, Joe Weil was safe on an error, Nick Oristanio walked to load the bases. Matt Scheer's fielder's choice drove in one run and Matt DeWald's single drove in another.
The final two Summit runs came in the 7th when Weil walked, N. Oristanio singled and DeWald drove them both in with a booming triple.
