James Baumeister took the mound in steady light rain and pitched 5 very good innings, allowing only 2 earned runs on 4 hits. He struck out 11 batters. John Floegel pitched the final 2 innings allowing 1 hit and stiking out 2. Even though Baumeister left the game with a 3 run lead he was not credited with the win. The ultimate winning run scored while Floegel was pitching and he is credited with the win.
This game shouldn't have been as close as it was, but the Hilltopper infield made 4 key errors that led to 3 unearned runs.
Summit scored in the first, combining singles by Mike Nitzberg and Andrew Oristanio, a walk to Sean Guida and a sacrifice fly by Kyle Freis. Bearley scored 3 runs in the top of the 4th but Summit came back with 5 runs in the bottom of the inning. Tanner Fulton started the inning with a triple and scored on David Berardi's sacrifice fly. Nick Abbott used his speed advantage to beat out a single and promptly stole 2nd. A single by Seth Ryan was followed by a Nitzberg ground out that scored Abbott. Guida singled to score Ryan and Oristanio hit an inside the park homerun to give Summit a 6-3 lead.
Brearley tied the game at 6 all with 3 runs, only one of which was earned. In the bottom of the 6th Abbott tripled to start the inning. Ryan hit a long fly ball to center that scored Abbott with the winning run. Floegel held Brearley scoreless in the 7th to secure the victory.
