The long anticipated matchup of these two unbeaten neighbors finally arrived on a perfect football day. Inspite of three costly turnovers and a spate of calls that went against Summit, the Hilltoppers dominated the game. With a few breaks the score might easily have been 42-10 at the end of the 1st half. Summit began by fumbling the openning kick-off out of bounds at the Summit 1 yard line. Summit drove 90 yards to a first down down at the NP 9. Two passes to Will Weber accounted for 47 yards and the running of AJ Iarussi and Ryan Bringewatt covered the rest. But a holding penalty eventually led to a missed 30 yd field goal.. Summit forced a three and out for NP and Mike Badgley returned the punt to the NP end zone. However, Summit got a bad call on a block and the TD was nullified. In the 1st half Badgley would return 3 punts for TDs but only one would be allowed. Summit spotted New Providence the first score when a fumble gave NP the ball with good field position. A 52 yard pass play got the ball to the Summit 3 and Barletta scored for there. Things weren't going well for the Hilltoppers, but Summit bounced back and took the kickoff and marched 63 yards to knot the score. After the next NP punt Badgley again returned it 58 yards for a TD, and this time it wasn't called back. Again NP was forced to punt and Summit got good field position at the NP 44. Seven plays later Iarussi raced 24 yards for the score. NP broke a great return of the kick off to the Summit 40 and had to eventually settle for a 35 yd field goal. With score 21-10 Summit marched 60 yards with the final 5 yards covered by Iarussi. After the next NP punt, Badgley got 3 great blocks to return the punt for a TD, but it was called back. As the half was coming to an end Iarussi broke loose for a 70 yd run to the NP 3. He bulled in on the next play but fumbled after he crossed the goal line. The referee didn't agree and it was called a touch back.

The second half began with Summit in abit of a funk and The Hilltoppers allowed NP to score a field goal and a touchdown, to narrow the score to 28-20 with 10 minutes still to go. Fans began to look back at all the missed opportunities and worry. Fortunately, Badgley took the kickoff on the 1 yardline and returned it 53 yards to the NP 46 from there the running of Iarrusi and a nice pass to Weber gave Summit a 1st down at the 1 yard line and Iarussi scored to clinch the victory.

Summit rushed for 403 yards to New Providence's 63 yards. Amazingly, the Summit defense held NP's star, David Barletta, to only 16 yards rushing, while Iarussi ran for 184 yards and Ryan Bringewatt gained 148. As is often the case, Stefano Stadlinger led the defense with 11 tackles (3 for a loss).
