Both Summit and Rahway had identical 2-0 records entering the game. The Star-Ledger had headlined that game and Rahway's QB, Hakeem Kornegay was heralded as one of the fastest and best in Union County. As a result the fans were anticipating a tough battle, and that is what they got.

Summit 's 2nd possession began at Summit's 41. Six plays later Summit was at the Rahway 8, following a 24 yard run by Ryan Bringewatt. On the next play AJ Iarussi ripped through the Rahway defense for the score and Mike Badgley add the extra point. Some fans thought maybe this isn't going to be so bad. Think again. Rahway took Badgley's kick off at their 15. They proceeded to drive 85 yard in 14 plays to score. Along the way they harassed the Summit pass defense as they covered 54 of the 85 yard on 4 passes. Rahway missed the extra so Summit was able to take a 7-6 lead to the locker room at halftime.

Summit scored on its first possession of the 2nd half. The 65 yard drive was keyed by a crucial 21 yard run by Phillip Jefferson. Iarussi Again bulled his way into the endzone for the score making it 14-6 in favor of Summit. On Summit's next possession the Hilltoppers had 4th and less than one at the Rahway 47. Summit decided to go for it, but failed. That gave Rahway good field position, almost at mid field, and they made Summit pay. Three plays later Kornegay connected on a 35 yard TD pass. Kornegay ran in the extra point and the score was tied 14-14.

As the quarter was ending Summit was driving into Rahway territory but turned the ball over on a fumble at Rahway's 33 yard line. Rahway picked up a first down at their 44. Then on the next play Seth Ryan made a game changing play on a diving interception at the Rahway 45. After an initial incomplete pass Summit kept the ball mostly on the ground with Iarussi carrying on 5 of the 8 plays that made up the drive, including the final 3 yards for his third TD on the game. However, it wasn't just the ground game. At a key moment in the drive Bringewatt hit Luke Stephens for 10 yards to help keep the drive going. The TD, plus Badgley's extra point, put Summit ahead by 7 points with 10 minutes left in the game.

The Defense really stepped up their game and forced Rahway to go 3 and out on their next two possessions. On Rahway's second punt Seth Ryan took the punt at the 20 and returned it 20 yards before being knocked out of bounds. Rahway was called for a personal foul on the hit and the 15 yard penalty was added to the 20 yard runback. The put the ball on the Rahway 45. Summit moved to a first down at the Rahway 32. However a holding penalty on 3rd down moved the ball back to the 40 yard line and out of field goal range. But on 3rd down Iarussi ripped off a 13 yard gain to 26 which allowed Badgley to attempt a 42 yard field goal. It was perfect, and Summit had a 10 point lead with 2:23 left in the game. Any hope that Rahway had was ended when Badgley intercepted a Kornegay pass.

AJ Iarussi led the Summit offense with 127 rushing yards on 21 carries. Iarussi also was outstanding on defense with a team leading 11 tackles. Stefano Stadlinger was close behind with 9 tackles
