Summit got off to a dreadful start, making huge mistakes in its first 3 possessions. Summit lost a fumble on the 3rd play of the game. On the 2nd possession Roselle intercepted a Bringewatt pass, on the 2nd play, and eventually scored. On the 3rd possession Summit had to punt from its 15 yard line. The punt was blocked and recovered by Roselle in the end zone. So, a little over 6 minutes into the game Summit found itself behind 14-0. Not exactly the stuff of championships. However, Summit bounced back late in the quarter when it blocked a Roselle punt itself. Two plays later Ryan Bringewatt connected with AJ Iarussi for 26 yards and a TD. Needless to say, Mike Badgley kick the extra point.

In the 2nd, after exchanging possessions, Kyre Negron got off a nice punt that was downed at Roselle's 1 foot line. Roselle announced that they were for real as the went 68 yards in 7 plays to Summit's 32. This was even more impressive because Roselle was penalized for 20 yards during the drive. Two plays later Seth Ryan made a great interception to halt the drive. This seemed to add a spark to the Hilltoppers. They set out on a 61 yard drive that culminated in a 23 yard TD pass from Negron to Mike Badgley with 2:20 left in the half. Badgley's kickoff was taken on the Roselle 4 and returned to mid field. Roselle quickly made two first downs and moved to the Summit's 15 yardline with about 30 seconds left on the clock Happily, Austin Carbone made the first of his two inceptions and the half ended with the score tied 14-14.

Summit kicked off to start the 2nd half. On the 2nd play of the half Carbone intercepted again and returned the ball to the Roselle 25. Summit stalled but Badgley kicked a 29 yard field goal to provide Summit it's first lead of the game at 17-14. Roselle proceeded to scare the Hilltopper fans by displaying a strong running game and driving 70 yards in 14 plays to regain the lead. As good as Summit's defense is, it couldn't seem to find a way to stop Roselle. They scored and Summit was again behind 21-17 with 6 seconds gone in the 4th quarter. This was getting serious!

The next kickoff was returned to the Summit 40 yard line. On the second play Bringewatt hit Badgley who proceed to run through the entire Roselle defense to score and return Summit to the lead. Dame fortune was now smiling on Summit because on the Roselle's next possession the quarterback was sacked for a 16 yard loss and he coughed up the ball on the Roselle 10 yard line. Three plays later Bringewatt scored from 6 yards out to to give Summit a two score lead. Later, Badgley would put the icing on the cake with 26 yard field goal.

The game wasn't a thing of beauty, but a win is a win. Mike Badgley had a big day, scoring two TDs, 2 FGs, 4 PATs and one interception. The secondary had a big game as Austin Carbone had two interceptions and Seth Ryan one interception. Stefano Stadlinger had 12 tackles, 2 for a loss. In spite of the score, Roselle had more total yards of offense that Summit.

Summit will meet Caldwell (Saturday at Summit) in the Sectional Semifinal.
