| Summit took on Gov. Livingston who is consistantly one of the top teams in Union County. It was a very well played game and much closer than the final score would lead you to believe. Rob Carbone was outstanding for 5 1/3 inning until a home run over the short left field fence gave GL an insurmountable lead. Between the two starters there was only one walk. While each team made one error, neither figured in the scoring.
Summit actually out hit GL 9 to 8, but GL clearly out played Summit on the bases. The Gov.Livingston starter was a lefty with a good pickoff move. He picked off four Summit runners (although one escaped when a ball was dropped during the run down). GL managed a run in the 1st inning when the lead off batter singled. The next batter laid down a sacrifice bunt. Instead of stopping at second the runner went all the way to 3rd. This allowed him to score on ground ball.
Summit got its only run in the 2nd inning when Sean Guida doubled in and Cam Fuoti singled to drive in the run. Summit a real scoring opportunity in the 6th, down 2-1. Tanner Fulton got on via an error and Guida got his 3rd hit of the game. This put runners at 1st and 2nd with no outs and Cam Fuoti coming to the plate. Fuoti laid down a nice sacrifice bunt but instead of throwing to 1st the catchet threw to 3rd and forced Fulton. Summit got the worst of both aspects. They didn't have the advantage of Fuoti's bat and also didn't advance the runner to 3rd. One of GL's 4 pick offs left Summit high and dry.
