For the first time in many years Summit didn't have to play a preliminary game to play in the 1st round of the Union County Tournament. Summit had the 9 seed and Union Catholic had the 8 seed. It was a very exciting pitchers duel with Union Catholic getting only one. That hit came in the bottom of the 3rd. Unfortunately, that hit, for extra bases, followed a hit batter and a base on balls. It was the only time a Union Cathilc runner got past 2nd base. Summit out hit Union Catholic 6 to 1.
Summit was first to score in the top of the 2nd. With one out John Flogel was safe on a bobble by the short stop. Andrew Aguilara hit into a fielder's choice. Singles by David Barardi and Mike Bredahl resulted in Summit's only run. The Union Catholic pitcher scattered Summit's other 4 singles and didn't walk a single Hilltopper.
Sean Guida did a fine job through the first four innings. Rob Carbone covered the 5th inning and Eric Kaufman closed out the final inning.
