| Summit took on 5th seeded, and heavily favored, Union Catholic in the 2nd round of the Union County Tournament. The game got off to a terrible start, with turnovers and missed shots. As a result Union Catholic jumped to a 20-13 lead. Matt Fischetti's six points led Summit's scoring in the quarter. The 2nd quarter was a bit better behind Robbie Walsh's six points, but Summit went to the locker room behind by 11 points.
The 3rd quarter was more of the same as the Union Catholic built the lead to 16 points (54-38). In an unusual turn of events the Summit scoring in the first three quarters was mostly by Ryan Sweeney (12 points), Walsh (12 points) and Fischetti (7 points). Starting the final quarter down 16 points to a very good team was daunting. Many of the Summit fans felt it was over. However, the entire team rose to the occasion. Over the next six minutes Summit turned the table on Union Catholic and out scored them 18-4, with each of the starters contributing points. Ba'Shawn Mickens (7 pts), Sweeney (4 pts), Walsh (2 pts), Fischetti (2 pts) and Mac Wiesner (3 pts). With 1:47 left, Summit was within 2 points (58-56). Union catholic went into a slowdown to runoff the clock. The usual thing to do was to send the opponent to the foul line. However, Summit had only 3 fouls, so it was necessary give 4 fouls before UC would have to start shooting fouls. That ran a lot of time off the clock and when they did go to the foul line they were a perfect 6 for 6 to win the game.
Sweeny led the Summit scoring with 16 points and Walsh and Mickens each had 14 points. Walsh had another double-double with 14 rebounds. However, it was more than just rebounds for Walsh. His presence in the paint repeatedly forced Union Catholic to change the arc of their shots.
