Summit suffered its first loss at the hand of Bernards. Summit started out well as they manufactured a run with back to back 2 out singles by Sean Guida and Cam Fuoti. Guida scored on a delayed steal of home while Fioti was making the final out in a run down. Guida, the starting pitcher, struggled a bit but got out of the first without allowing a run. Summit scored 2 more runs in the second in what could have been a huge inning. John Floegel started with a sharp single followed by a walk to Andrew Aguilera. David Berardi placed a perfect bunt and everyone was safe, bases loaded, 0 outs. Alec Fuoti plated one run on a single and Hunter Miller followed with an RBI walk. Bases still loaded with no outs. Unfortunately, Bernards turned a beautiful 5-2-3 double play follwed by a infield pop up that left two stranded. Summit was off to 3-0 lead
Bernards got their 1st run of the game in the third. The led off hitter walked and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. The runner scored on a single. After a walk Guida got out of the inning with two strikeouts and a ground out. Having thrown 64 pitches through 3 innings prompted a pitching change in the top of the 4th. Aguilera came on in the 4th and was a victim of a series of 4 consecutive seeing eye singles bringing up Bernards Catcher, and Rutgers bound senior, who promptly deliverd a grand slam on the 1st pitch. A subsequent single, walk and sac fly plated Bernards' 6th run of the inning.
Summit answered back in their half of the inning with a lead off single by Kyle Brown and walk by Fulton. Cam Fioti then hit a single to center that was misplayed by the center fielder plating 2 runs and allowing Cam to go to second. Again the rally was squashed when a pinch runner was thrown out at 3rd attemting to steal on a passed ball.
Bernards ended up scoring 3 more runs in the game and Summit’s 7th inning rally fell short. (reporting by Rich Berardi)
