Our neighbor Chatham came to town and got off to a roaring start. Mike Maldonado was the starting pitcher and could hardly have had a rougher start. Chatham batted around and gave up 4 runs, 5 hits, 2 walks. Nothing seemed to working for the 6' 6" pitcher. The outlook was grim! When the time came for the 2nd inning, Maldonado was a different pitcher. He put Chatham down one-two-three. In fact, for the next 4 1/3 innings he allowed no more runs and only one hit. However, the first inning took its toll on his pitch count so with one out in the 6th Charlie Pacillio came on in relief to complete the game.
Lets go back the bottom of the 1st inning. Summit rallied for 4 runs to tie the game at 4-4. Summit would go on to score four more in the bottom of the 4th and another four in 6th inning to put the game out of reach.
Summit first four started with Sean Guida being hit by the 2nd Chatham pitch of the game. Kyle Brown was on via a fielder’s choice, a single by Cam Fuoti, a double by Tanner Fulton scored Brown. A sacrifice fly by John Floegel scored Cam Fuoti. An error by the Chatham first baseman put Andrew Aguilera on base. An error by the catcher allowed Fulton to score and Aguilera to advance and ultimately score on David Berardi’s RBI single.
Summit’s four runs in the 4th started with a single by Guida.. A walk to Brown was followed by a Cam Fuoti single, a hit batter and a double by Floegel. The final four run outburst came in the 6th. Brown was on via an error. That was followed by singles by Cam Fuoti, Fulton and Floegel and an RBI ground out by Aguilera..
