The magic finally ended as Summit lost to the No. 1 seed by a single run. It sure wasn’t the fault of Sean Guida’s pitching. He gave us everything we needed, giving up only 4 hits and one earned run. Certainly, the defense didn’t let us down. The infield turned two great double plays at key moments and the outfield handled everything that was hit to them. The offense came up with 6 hits (compared to the 4 from Cranford). But Sadly, Cranford won the game.

Cranford took a one run lead in the bottom of the first from a lead off single and , eventually, a sacrifice fly. Summit tied it up in top of the 2nd. John Floegel led off with a double, moved to 3rd on David Berardi’s single. A sacrifice fly by Hunter Miller scored Flogel for what would turn out to be Summit’s only run. Cranford scored a second run in the 5th when a lead off walk eventually led to a run scoring off a sacrifice fly.

Summit had one last chance in the top of the 7th. Tanner Fulton singled to start the inning. Guida came up next and crushed a towering shot to the opposite field. It looked like it might be a home run, but the left fielder pulled it in at the fence. The game ended on a when Cam Fuoti ripped a line drive that caught the glove on the 3rd baseman who doubled Fulton off first.

It was a great run in the State Tournament. REALLY Great Baseball!
