Just like the Bernards game it started out well for summit. A lead off walk to Kyle Brown was followed by a stolen base and a double down the line by Sean Guida plated Summit’s first run. John Floegel was strong for Summit.but started slowly. Floegel gave up a 4 pitch walk to the lead off batter who promptly stole second and third with no outs. Floegel then bore down and struck out the sides stranding the runner at third. He repeated that feat with runners at 2nd and third in the second as well striking out 2 more batters.
In the 4th Summit had a chance to blow the game open when they got 3 consecutive hits by Brown, Tanner Fulton and Guida. However base running mistakes and attempts to add an extra base resulted in a runner at first and 2 outs instead of a bases loaded with no out.. Summit was able to score one run but could have had many more.
Floegel held Elizabeth scoreless until 2 errors, a fielders choice and a wild pitch got Elizabeth on the board. Floegel left with a 2-1 lead after five ionnings. Cam Fioti came on to pitch the sixth and got the first three batters to 1-2 counts before each fought off pitches and were able to get 3 straight hits tying the score at 2 a piece. What followed next was a series of bases loaded squibbers in front of the plate that resulted in four Summit errors and 5 unearned runs despite the fact that the ball never made it past the pitchers mound.
Summit entered the seventh down 5. They were able to get runners to second and third with 1 out on a single by Alec Fuoti and a walk to Hunter Miller but could not muster any runs. (reporting by Rich berardi)
