After a mercy victory, an almost mercy win and a game played in a down pour, it was great to experience a real pitcher’s duel played in the sun and 60 degrees. Both teams managed only 3 hits and all the scoring took place in the 5th inning. John Floegel was masterful, allowing only one run on 2 hits. Along the way he struck out nine. Cam Fuotu came on in the 6th inning and held Watchung Hills scoreless.
Summit’s 2 runs came when David Berardi led off by being hit by a pitch. He moved to 3rd on Alec Fuoti’s double. Floegel’s infield out drove in Berardi and a sacrifice fly by Hunter Miller plated Fuoti. Watchung Hills caused some tension in the bottom of the fifth. After one out, a batter was walked. A single and another walk loaded the bases with two outs. An infield error allowed one unearned run to score. However, Floegel got the next batter to ground out.
