This is one that never should have been lost. After getting off to a great start, the Summit defense gave up an unearned run in the 2nd inning, another four unearned runs in the 4th inning and four more in the 7th. A total of 6 errors enabled the disasster. Summit took a 6-1 lead after 3 innings and thing were looking good for the Hilltoppers. In the 4th inning, 2 key errors led to four unearned runs, cutting the lead to 6-5. Summit scored 2 runs in bottom of the 6th to restore some order at 8-5.
In the top of the 7th, three errors led to another melt down and West Essex scored 5 runs, all but one unearned. So, Summit entered the bottom of the 7th needing two runs to continue play. Summit managed to get runners on 1st and 2nd with only one out. Sadly, a well struck fly to right field was tracked down and the final out was a 6-3 ground ball..
