Summit 13 7 7 7 34
Gov. Livingston 0 7 7 0 14
Summit scored on three of its first four possessions while completely stifling Gov. Livingston’s offense. Mid way through the 2nd quarter Summit held a 20-0 lead and seemed on the way to a blowout. The kick off following the third touchdown gave GL the ball on their 25 yard line. On the first play, GL threw a pass into the flat and the receiver ran through the Summit defense for a 75 yard TD. That seemed to change the game momentum. GL stopped Summit’s next drive, which ended in a missed 37 yard field goal.

GL took possession on their 20 and proceeded to keep the Summit defense back on it’s heels as they moved to a first down at the Summit 15. Time finally ran out with GL on the 7 yardline, but they felt they were back in the game and would get the opening kick off to start the 2nd half.

The 2nd half got off to a good start as Summit defense forced a 3 and out, but the punt was muffed and GL got the ball back on their 43. GL proceeded to launched an eleven play drive, all on the ground, that made the score 20-14. What seemed like an easy win had turned into a dog fight with 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

Summit rose to the occasion by taking the kickoff and moveing to the GL 32 yard line behind the running of Colm Dougherty and Chris Zanelli. The final 32 yards came on a pass from Charlie Terry to Drew Mulholland. Freshman James Johnston kicked the extra point and Summit regained the momentum and a 27-14 lead. The defense forced a GL punt on their next possession and Summit got the ball back on the Summit 40. Summit put the game away with a 6 play, 60 yard, drive that featured two Terry to Zanelli passes that covered 26 and 20 yards. The last pass yielded Summit’s final TD.

Summit’s opening possession and score covered 64 yards in 13 plays, highlighted by the running of Dougherty and an 18 yard pass from Terry to Andrew Masterfano. Dan Childers scored the TD on a 5 yard pass.

Summit went 55 yards in 4 plays on its next possession. Runs by Zanelli (14 yards), Masterfano (28 yards) and Terry (12 yards) covered most of the yardage
.
The third TD came after John Cordrey intercepted a GL pass at the Summit 46. A big 21 yard run by Dougherty, a 14 yard Terry to Childers pass and a 9 yard Zanelli run ended in the end zone.

Summit will take on Cranford at home next Saturday.
