Hillside shocked the Summit crowd by stopping Summit’s first possession and then driving 64 yards for a TD, aided by a 15 yard Summit penalty. That got everyone’s attention. Summit went nowhere on its next possession. Finally, on their 3rd possession, Summit got on track with a 58 yard drive capped by Colm Dougherty scoring from the 1 yardline. The drive featured 39 yard run by Dougherty and a 19 yard pass from Charlie Terry to Andrew Masterfano. Following the kickoff, Hillside coughed up the ball at their 15 yard line. David Connolly ripped off a 14 yard run and Chris Zanelli covered the final yard. After Summit stuffed Hillside’s next possession Drew Mulholand took the punt at the Summit 45 and returned 35 yard to the Hillside 20. Caleb Sink covered the 20 yards in 2 plays.
Just as the Summit fans started to relax with a 22-7 lead, Hillside pulled off a 66 yard (6 play) drive to make the score 22-13. Fortunately, Summit would score twice more before the half. On a 56 yard Terry to Connolly pass and on a quick 65 yard drive with most the gain from a 31 yard Terry to Connolly pass and a 22 yard pass to Andrew Masterfano. The game was well in hand at the half 33-13. Early in the 3rd quarter Substitutions began, but not before Summit drove to the Hillside 20, which led to a 4th down 37 yd field goal by Freshman Jack Johnson. Hillside would score twice in the 4th quarter as Summit allowed many players to see action. |
