This game will go down as one of the greatest rallies in Summit History. The Rahway speedsters dominated the first half in every way. They held Summit to 55 yard of total offense in the half, while racing to a seemingly easy 20-6 lead. The Summit fans were stunned and the situation looked bleak. During the scoreless third quarter Summit began to hold it own against the Indians, and yet the score remained 20-6 starting the final 12 minutes. Summit started the 4th quarter on the Rahway 42 yard line. Three plays later Summit scored. A 6 yd carry by Charlie Terry was followed by runs of 11 and 25 yards by Colm Dougherty. The kick failed and the score was 20-12. After kicking off, the defense forced a 3 and out and the ball back at he Summit. 39. A 13 yard run by Dougherty and a 16 yard run by Terry gave Summit a first down on the Rahway 30. Terry moved it to the 5 and Dougherty took it to the one and Caleb Sink bulled his way into end zone. Summit lined up to pass for the 2 point PAT needed to tie the game. Instead, Dougherty ran it in to the endzone. Game tied. Summit got one more chance to score and win the game when Drew Mulholand had a fair catch of a punt at the Summit 35 with about 5 minutes left in the game. Dougherty really stepped up his game as he carried the ball nine times, gaining 52 of the 65 yards for the score, including the the final 3 yards. A key play in the drive was a 13 yard Terry pass to Chris Zanelli that put the ball on the 3. The winning score came with only 30 seconds left in the game. WHAT A FINNISH! |
