If you looked at the statistics and then the score you think the game was closer than it was. Keep in mind that much of the yardage for Roselle occurred after the score was 33-0. Of course, Summit was also aided by intercepting four passes and recovering one fumble.
Summit's first possession started on the Roselle 30 following Roselle's failed attempt to convert a fourth down on the Roselle 42. Four running plays moved the ball to the 20 and Charlie Terry hit Dan Childres in endzone for a Touchdown. Summit got the ball back when Andrew Masterfano intercepted a Roselle pass at the Summit 20. Summit couldn't move the ball and was forced to punt. Fortunately, the punt was fumbled and Summit got the ball back on Roselle's 40 yardline. Three runs by Colm Dougherty and a 20 pass to Zanelli put the ball at the Roselle 2. Dougherty covered the final 2 yards. The quarter came to an end with Summit on top 12-0. Summit scored again late in the 2nd quarter following a blocked Roselle punt. Summit got the ball on the 20 and two runs by Dougherty found the end zone. Summit lined up to pass for a 2 point conversion but Dougherty ran the ball instead. The half ended with Summit on top 20-0. Summit took the opening 2nd half kickoff at the Summit 21 yardline. Ten running plays later Dougherty took it in from the 17 yardline to make the score 27-0. Summit would go on to score once more when the took over on downs at the Roselle 47.Again Summit relied on the run. Chris Zanelli covered the final 4 yards. Roselle finally scored at the end of the 3rd quarter on a 17 yard pass. Defensively, Masterfano had a big day with 3 interceptions. |
