Colonia started fast, taking a quick 7-2 lead. They had a hot hand from 3-point territory, draining 4 of 5 attempts to help them take a 24-17 lead at halftime. Summit’s fans were seriously worried as the second half began. Summit proceeded to throw a very assertive zone defense at Colonia that shut down their outside shooting. Every Hilltopper stepped up their pressure, no one more that Robbie Walsh. Every time Colonia got the ball in the corner to one of its shooters Walsh would quickly more out to intimidate the potential shooter, then quickly slide back into the paint for a potential rebound. The defense worked and held Colonia to only 2 points in the 3rd quarter. Meanwhile, 7 points by Walsh and 5 by Kyle Crotty staked Summit to a 29-26 lead heading into the 4th quarter.

Mac Wiesner opened the final quarter with 3 pointer, Crotty added a field goal as did Wiesner. Suddenly, Summit had a 36-29 lead.. A Three pointer by Colonia was answered by three free throws by Wayne Wong and Walsh as well as a key field goal by Pete Cummings. That gave Summit a 10 point lead and completed a 24-5 run.

Walsh led the scoring/defense with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Crotty (11 points) and Wiesner 10 points were in double digits.

Summit will take on Newark Eastside in the Sectional Final on Monday. Warning: Eastside in the top ranked team the State. It is worth noting that this was only the 3rd time in the last 40 years that Summit had made it to the Sectional Finals.
