After a pair of very easy wins, Summit came up against a team that could play basketball. Summit took a slim 28-26 lead at half time led by Kyle Crotty’s 13 points and 6 points from Matt Fischetti. Summit opened a little daylight (42-37) in the 3rd quarter, led by 7 points from Robbie Walsh and 5 more from Crotty. Cranford’s Tommy Trotter drainded a 3 pointer to start the 4th quarter. Two baskets by Walsh were answered by two free throws and another 3, all by Trotter. So with 5 minuted to go Summit’s lead had been trimmed to one point (46-45). Unanswered FGs by Crotty, Mac Wiesner and Walsh put Summit ahead by 7 with 2 minutes left on the clock. Wayne Wong hit 4 crucial free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Crotty amassed 20 points to lead the Summit scoring. Walsh, who had struggled in the first half, exploded in the second half with 15 points and 10 of his game high 14 rebounds. Cranford’s Trotter wound up scoring 23 points.
