Elizabeth traveled to Summit for a 1st round match in the Union County Tournament. The game got off to a bad start as Elizabeth opened an early 9-3 lead, but 3 pointers by Kyle Crotty and Mac Wiesner plus a pair of field goals by Matt Fischetti allowed Summit to end the quarter up 11-10. The battle remained even through the 2nd quarter and the half ended with Elizabeth holding a 1 point lead (23-22).
Elizabeth turned up the pressure in the 3rd quarter. Summit struggled with a number of turnovers and missed shots. At the end of the quarter Summit had been held to 6 points, while Elizabeth ran up 17. That left Elizabeth with a commanding 12 point lead. Summit rallied behind three 3-pointers by Crotty and FGs by Matt Fischetti and Robbie Walsh to cut the lead in half (46-41) with 2:30 left. Two missed Summit lay-ups would have cut the lead to one, but it was not to be. Summit managed only one point in the final 2 ½ minutes.
Crotty (14 points) and Fischetti (11 points) led Summit's scoring and Robbie Walsh was big in the paint with 18 rebounds.
