Summit (3rd seed) took on Warren Hills (14th seed) in the 1st round of the North 2 Group 3 Sectional. The game was a low scoring battle from the beginning. Summit maintained a slim lead throughout most of the first 3 quarters and entered the 4th quarter ahead 32-30. Robby Walsh scored first in the final quarter but Warren Hills responded with a three pointer to pull to within 1 point. Mac Wiesner drained 4 consecutive free throws to help Summit to a 36-31 lead with 2 minutes left. Warren Hills scored a pair of free throws but Wayne Wong hit 4 straight free throws and Summit led 40-33, its biggest lead of the game, with only 45 seconds on the clock. Warren Hills answered with a 3 pointer, but it wasn’t enough. Free throws played a major role in Summit’s victory. Summit went to the line 30 times compared to Warren Hill’s twice. Warren Hills out scored Summit 34-22 from the field and Summit’s 20-2 advantage from the foul line made all the difference. Summit’s 3 point drought, that started in the New Providence loss, continued as Summit went 0 for 12 from 3 point land. That made Summit 2 for 25 in the last two games. Wiesner and Walsh led Summit’s scoring with 11 points each and, as usual, Walsh was the big rebounder with 10. It was good to see Matt Fischetti, who cracked a bone in the left hand during the West Essex game, back in limited action. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
