It is hard to describe a game that saw 9 pitchers go to the mound, give up 29 hits and 29 runs, strand 22 runners, walk or hit 20 batters and contribute 10 errors and last over 3 hours.
Going into the bottom of the 5th Brearley (who Summit had shutout 6-0 to open the season) held 12-3 advantage and it wasn’t looking good for the Hilltoppers. Summit gained back 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th and had the bases loaded with only one out. However, a line drive was snagged by the Brearley short stop and turned into a double play to end the inning with Summit down 12-6.
Brearley added one more run in the 6th leaving Summit 7 runs down with 2 innnings to go. The Summit bats came alive in the 6th at delivered 4 runs to close to 13-10. Brearly was scoreless in the 7th . Summit managed to turn 2 walks, a hit batter, one single and an error into 3 runs and send the game to extra innings. Brearley put 3 runs on the scoreboard in the 8th to get the victory.
