Hit batters: Chang(1)
|
Summit took the lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. Two errors by the Chatham shortstop and one by the 2nd baseman, coupled with a single by Cam Fuoti gave Summit 2 unearned runs.
Alex Crane, the starter, pitched four full innings and part of the 5th without giving up a hit or a run. However, the fifth turned out be his undoing. A pair of walks and two errors led to one run and loaded bases when Brian Cantillo came on in relief. An initial double allowed 2 more runs. But Cantillo settled down and got the next three outs, however it left Chatham with a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the 5th Summit regained the lead with 3 runs. Jared Chang was walked to start the inning. That was followed by singles from Kyle Brown, C. Fuoti and Alec Fuoti, a sacrifice fly by Will Schaffer and another single by Hunter Miller. As a result, Summit’s 3 additional runs gave the Hilltoppers a 5-3 lead.
That lead remained through a scoreless 6th innning. Chatham’s final chance in the 7th started with a double and a single. At this point C. Fuoti came in as the closer. A fielder’s choice made the score 5-4, but Cam secured a the ground out and a fly out to the Right to end the threat.
