Will Schaffer got the starting pitching assignment against the always strong Cranford team. He pitched a strong 1st inning and was aided by a nice 6-4-3 double play. Things got rocky in the 2nd inning as a combination of 4 walks and 4 wild pitches allowed 3 runs on no hits. After one out in the 3rd a walk and a home run put Cranford ahead 5-0 and brought Brian Cantillo to the mound. Three straight singles added another run before the side was out and Cranford held a 6-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 3rd Summit narrowed the gap with two runs. Jason Schneider and Kyle Brown got things started by drawing walks and Matt Murdock loaded the bases with a single. Alec Fuoti’s single drove in one run and left the bases loaded. Charlie Pacilio walked to drive in the 2nd run. Cranford would add 3 more runs in the top of the 5th and put the game out of reach at 9-2. Three more Cranford runs in the top of the 7th drove a nail in the coffin.

Summit’s last at bat resulted in a pair of runs. Walks to Brown, Murdock and A. Fuoti loaded the bases. A fourth walk to Pacilio forced in a run and a single by pinch hitter Jared Chang drove in Summit’s 4th run.
