It was a cold dreary afternoon that started with a drizzle and finished in serious rain. Summit lead in every statistical category except number of runner crossing the plate. Summit took a 1 run lead in the 1st inning when Matt Murdock got on via an error, stole 2nd and scored on Cam Fuoti’s single. Summit took the lead to 2 runs in the 3rd. An error allowed Kyle Brown to get to first. He quickly stole 2nd and Murdock drove him with a single. Summit would not score again until the bottom of the sixth, meanwhile Roselle Park managed to score 5 runs, aided by a pair unforced errors.
The 6th started with Miller gaining 1st on a dropped 3rd strike, Charlie Pacilio singled and Schaffer was on via an error that also allowed Miller to score. Things were looking good with runner on 1st and 2nd and no outs. Sadly, a sacrifice bunt went wrong and neither runner advanced with one out. An infield out advanced the runners with two out and the potential uprising ended with a strike out. Summit’s last chance came in the 7th. Murdock doubled and C. Fuoti and Alex Fuoti both singled, scoring Murdock and leaving runners at the corners with no out. However, two strike outs and an infield out ended things for summit.
Alec Fuoti ,the starting pitcher, got off to a bad start. The lead off batter singled, a walk and a wild pitch put runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs. However, A. Fuoti struck out the 3,4 and 5 hitter (the heart of the order) to end the inning. Over the next two innings A Fuoti struck out another 6 batter. Quite a start.
Note: Trying to keep score in the rain is always dicey and I will need to check the official book to be sure I got everything right.
