Hit batters: Fuoti,C(1),Pacilio(1)
This Union County Quarterfinal matchup pitted the #10 seeded Summit against the #2 seeded Scotch Plains. A strong argument could be made that Scotch Plains should have been the #1 seed, since they had beaten both Cranford and Gov. Livingston. Summit was a heavy underdog. Alec Fuoti was the starting pitcher for Summit

Both teams scored a run in the 3rd inning. In the top of the 4th Summit picked up 5 runs (only 1 run was earned) off 4 hits and two glaring errors by the Scotch Plains shortstop. In the bottom of the 4th A. Fuoti began to struggle. He was tagged for 3 singles and two walks. Three runs had crossed the plate and A. Fouti’s pitch count had reached 90. So, his brother ,Cam Fuoti, took over and struck out the first batter he faced and the 2nd flied out to Center. After 4 full innings Summit held a 6-3 lead.

Summit would add another run in both the 5th and 6th innings and Scotch Plains would add 2 runs in the 6th. As a result, Scotch Plains came up for their last at bat in the 7th trailing 8-5. Three singles and a walk scored two runs and there was only one out. There were still runners at 1st and 2nd. The score was Summit 8- Scotch Plains 7. C. Fuoti got the next batter to fly out to Right. One more out and Summit would advance to the semifinals. Fuoti hit the cleanup batter to load the bases. With a 2-1 count the #5 hitter rapped a hard ground ball to second. It was handled cleanly and thrown to first for the final out. So Summit will play again on Saturday against Cranford.

In the 3rd inning summit’s run came when Jason Schneider walked, moved to 2nd on an infielsd out and score on a Kyle Brown single. The 5 run 4th came off singles by A Fuoti,Charlie Pacilio, Hunter Miller and Matt Murdock plus a walk to Will Schafer and two big errors by their shortstop.

The run in the 5th resulted from singles by Pacilio, Schaffer and Cantillo. In the 6th C Fuoti was hit by the pitcher, He stole 2nd and scored on a single by A. Fuoti.
