Summit wrapped up the regular season with an easy victory over Hillside, who ended their season with a 2-7 record. Summit scored on its first two possessions to take a 14-0 lead. The first drive (63 yards) featured the running of Peter McKinlay and Chris Zanelli (4 carries each) with Zanelli covering the last 4 yards. The 2nd drive was only one play, a 74 yard pass from McKinlay to Andrew Helmer. Paulo Umana kicked the two extra points and wound up being a perfect 5 for 5 on extra points.

Hillside surprised Summit early in the 2nd quarter by scoring on a 31 yard run and a 19 yard TD pass. They missed the extra and the score was 14-6. Summit responded with a 65 yard drive that relied on the running McKinlay and Zanelli plus a 14 yard pass to Sean Andrews. McKinlay covered the final 2 yards for the score. The final score of the half cane when Summit took advantage of bad Hillside punt and got the ball on the Hillside 33. Another strike from McKinlay to Helmer covered the 33 yards and the half ended 28-6

Summit’s second possession of the 2nd half came when Helmer intercepted a pass on the Hillside 36. Zanelli carried on 4 consecutive running plays and scored the final TD for Summit at the mid point of the 3rd quarter. With a 35-6 lead, Summit inserted the JV players for the remaining 18 minutes of the game. Summit stayed on the ground with the running of Matt Murdock (39 yards) and Sam Zanelli (40 yards).

Zanelli was the leading Rusher (15 carries for 111 yards). Helmer hauled in 4 passes for 154 yards.

Summit will take on Morris Hills next Saturday in the 1st round of the State Tournament.
