The first half was an old fashion defensive struggle. The first nine possession’s ended with the offensive team punting (five times by Summit and 4 times by Parsippany Hills). However, on Par Hill’s 5th possession they ripped off two plays that covered 63 yards and ended with Par Hills on top 7-0. The first was a 29 yd pass and that was followed by 34 yard sweep by their star running back Angelo Gallego. Those 7 points loomed large throughout the rest of the game.

Starting the 2nd half Summit stopped the Par Hills on the Summit 27 yard line. Summit appeared pumped and Chris Zanelli ripped off 3 carries for a total of 23 yard and appeared to have Par Hills back on there heals. However, Zanelli never got up after the 3rd carry. He had broken his leg and had to be taken to the hospital. This was crushing blow to Chris and to the Summit offense. Without their Star running back Summit was forced to punt.

Parsippany capitalized on the big momentum shift and drove from their 15 to a first down at Summit’s 5 yardline. A touchdown late in the 3rd quarter of an epic defensive game would have been a terrible blow. Happily, Andrew Helmer intercepted a pass on the one yardline to keep Summit in the game. Summit’s last chance to tie the game came in the middle of the final quarter. Summit’s drive started on the Summit 29. Without Zanelli Summit had to rely more heavily on the pass. Peter Mckinlay connected with Drew Mulholland, Helmer, and Sean Andrews (twice) to get Summit a first down on the Par Hills 24. But it was not to be.

Parsippany Hills scored a second TD with a minute and a half left, aided by two Summit penalties that put them on the Summit 1 yard line.

Note: This is the first time since early in 2008 that has been held scoreless.
