This was Summit’s biggest test of this young season. Warren Hills had given Summit a scare last year and their big running star, Justin Iaione, had been racking up huge rushing yardage in their first two games, including 300 yards and 4 TDs in one game. Summit’s defense rose to the occasion and held the Warren Hills star to 32 yards on 10 carries in the first half. Sadly, Summit couldn’t get its offense going against a strong Warren Hills defense. On Summit’s first four possessions the Hilltoppers got off only 3 or 4 plays before having to punt.

On Warren Hills’ second possession they moved from their 47 to a first down at the Summit 15. Three Iaione carries only gained 4 yards and Warren Hill kicked 22yard field goal take an early lead. After three punt exchanges Summit found itself with the ball at their 10 yard line. Peter Mckinley moved the ball to the 17 and Chris Zanelli ripped off a 32 yard run to the Summit 49. Zanelli picked up a first down at the WH 36. McKinley and Zanelli each rushed for 5 yards and gained a first down at the 26. A pass to Andrew Helmer got the ball to the 2 yard line and Zanelli took it in for Summit’s first score. Paulo Umana kicked the extra point and Summit held a tenuous 7-3 lead with 4 minutes left in the half.

Summit got the back quickly on a 3 and out by Warren Hills, but gave it back on an interception. Warren Hills returned the favor on a fumble and Summit had the ball at their 30. A 15 yard penalty moved the ball to the 45 with less than 2 minutes on the clock. A 39 yard pass to Drew Mulholland gave Summit a first down at the WH 16. After a Sack back to the 31, a pass to Helmer got Summit to the 10 where Zanelli ran it in with for the score with 16 seconds left on the clock. Summit went for two after a WH penalty put the ball at the 1.5 yard line. So the half ended with Summit up 15-3.

The 2nd half featured an exchange of punts and interceptions with no one able to score. Late in the 3rd quarter a Forschauer punt was fumbled at the Warren Hills 3 and gave Summit the ball. A pass to Sean Andrews produced Summit’s final score.
