This was an amazing game, each half was played as if different teams were playing. In the first half Summit fell behind 34-26 and managed to sink only 8 of 17 free throws and score only 7 field goals. In contrast, Scotch Plains scored on 10 field goals and drained 9 of 9 free throws. Things looked somewhat bleak for the Hilltoppers. No one knows what transpired in the locker room, but a different Summit squad came on the floor. Summit came out at high speed and in a flash scored the first 11 points of the half to take a 37-34 lead.
Summit didn’t take its foot of the throttle and by the end of the 3rd quarter held a 10 point lead and Scotch Plains was back on its heels. It didn’t stop there. The 4th quarter was more of the same. Summit poured in 27 more points to win by 23. When the dust settled, Summit had scored 56 points in the 2nd half alone.
Scotch Plains had no answer for Patrick Maloney, who had his best game of the season. In the 2nd half alone he scored 16 of his game high 24 points. Add to that his 10 rebounds and you have a monster “double - double.”
Jordon Gonzales had 19 point, 14 in this the 2nd half. Will Schaffer (10 points) and Wayne Wong (11 points) were also in double digits.
