The traditional opening day game between the perennial #1 & #2 in the state was won on a tie breaking goal by Delbarton with only 1:17 left in the game.

Delbarton scored the first two gaols of the game before John Cordrey fired in a shot with two minutes left in the first. That was all the scoring Summit could muster in the the first half and another goal by Delbarton left summit down 3-1 at the half.

Summit’s zone defense found its grove after that, keeping Delbarton off the board for nearly 28 minutes. In that time, the Hilltopper attack used its patience and broke through three times to carry a 4-3 lead into the 4th quarter. Riley Flynn found the back of the net with 10:40 left in the third, and Evan Kulpan tied the game at 3-3 with 5:41 left. Summit took the lead after defender Andrew Helmer made an acrobatic play to keep a ball alive along the sideline at midfield. He made a nice pass to set up a transition opportunity, where Andrew Chase scored with 30 seconds left in the quarter.

Summit’s defense held off Delbarton in the 4th until the final 3 minutes when Delbarton tied the game

    1st round vs. Paramus
Won 18-0 This was quite a mis-match. During the 1st 2 quarters Summit racked up 15 points and Paramus only had the ball in their scoring zone for at most 60 seconds. Almost everytime Summit scored they won the faceoff and scored again. Even when their defense got the ball they usually turned it over before getting to the center line. The stats tell the story.

Talking with fans before the game it was clear that Summit underestimated Cranford. Cranford quickly gave notice by taking a 3-1 lead in the first quarter. Luke Christiano and Andrew Chase traded goals to start the first quarter but Mike Palumbo and Christiano staked Cranford to a 3-1 lead. Christiano helped set the tone for Cranford by winning the first four faceoffs. Summit had been used to dominating faceoffs, but won only two of eight in the first half.

Summit quickly pulled within one goal when Sean Andrews scooped up a ground ball off the opening faceoff of the second quarter and ran it down the field, finishing a shot with his long pole 18 seconds into the frame. Midway in the 2nd, Drew Mullholand tied the game 3-3. At that is the way the half ended.

The teams played a scoreless five minutes to open the third before the game went into a weather delay, which lasted more than an hour. Cranford emerged from the weather delay and got a quick goal from Christiano, but Chris Zanelli answered for Summit less than a minute later to tie the game 4-4. Summit took its first lead on an Evan Kulpan goal, but it was short lived as goals from Richie Hurley and Christiano in a five-second stretch gave Cranford a 6-5 lead. Hulrey tacked on another goal in the final minute for a two-goal advantage that the Cougars carried into the fourth quarter

Summit was behind 7-5 starting the 4th quarter as John Cordrey scored twice to fuel a fourth quarter rally, including the game-tying goal and game-winning goal with 5:42 to play, to power Summit,to victory over Cranford in the final of the Group 2 tournament .

Summit's defense held the lead over the final minutes, which included a key save from Jay Winchell who finished with 5 saves

    NJSIAA Final vs. Rumson
Won 7-0 Summit's defense stole the show in the first round of the Tournament of Champions, posting a 7-0 shutout against Rumson-Fair Haven.

Summit's offense made sure that effort went to good use, and the attack gave the team a quick lead to work with on goals by Andrew Chase, John Cordrey and Corey McManus. But a 3-0 lead at halftime can quickly evaporate

The 3rd quarter was a defensive struggle, with neither side able to score. Chris Zanelli broke the ice one minute into the 4th quarter. Chase would score twice more and Malcom Feeney finished off the scoring when he ran down following a faceoff win. Jay Winchell had 4 saves
