The game started off close, as Summit capitalized on the hot shooting hand of Freshman Christina Richson, who connected for three 3-pointers in the opening quarter and helped build an early lead. But Westfield pushed the tempo late in the quarter to put Westfield up 22-19. Westfield’s transition game allowed Westfield to push the lead to 12 points at the half. Summit fought its way back a bit in the 2nd half. Richson connected on her fifth and sixth 3-pointers late in the third quarter, and Summit used a quick start in the fourth to cut the deficit to eight points. However, Summit was unable to close the gap.
Summit held Westfield without a field goal in the fourth quarter, but the team went 12-of-17 from the free-throw line in the quarter to seal the victory.
Richson led Summit with 24 points and five assists, while Cassidy O'Malley added 15 points, five rebounds and four blocks. Olivia Kelly was also in double digits with 10 points.
