Summit traveled to E. Hanover to take on Hanover Park High School, a long time foe from the Iron Hills Conference days. Alex Crane was Summit’s starter and he had a great outing. He allowed only 2 runs (only 1 earned), on only 5 hits. In addition, he struck out 9 batters over the 5 innings he pitched. He seemed to have the Hanover Park batters baffled. After 5 innings his pitch count was nearing 100 and Matt Moremile came on in relief and stopped HP 1-2-3.
Summit has been in three 2-1 games. In each the Hilltoppers out hit their opponents, but failed to win the game.
Both teams were scoreless through 3 innings. In the top of the 4th Grant Douglas had a one out double and scored on a single by Crane. Hanover Park answered with two in the bottom of the 4th on an error, a walk and double. They would not threaten again. Summit had a big chance in the 6th. Singles by Robby Faris, Grant Douglas and Crane loaded the bases with two out. Sadly, the rally ended with a strike out.
Summit will meet South Plainfield in the 1st round of the State sectional, at Summit on Monday
