| Summit and New Providence met under the lights at Summit HS for their annual baseball game. Jason Schneider took the mound. NP scored a run in the each of the first two innings to take 2-0 lead. A walk in a bases loaded situation forced in 1st run and an infield error accounted for the second. Summit rallied with 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Two infield errors, a walk to Tim Colao and singles by Schneider, Robby Faris and Will Schaffer gave Summit a 4-2 lead. Summit would add 3 more runs in the 4th. Again, it started with a NP infield error. Walks to Matt Murdock and Faris loaded the bases and Schaffer’s single scored two runs. Schaffer would score on a single by Grant Douglas.
So Summit entered the top of five with a nice 7-2 lead. Schneider started the inning having thrown 85 pitches. After he walked the second batter Colao came on in relief. Colao struggled to find the plate. Three walks forced in a run and a double plated 3 more. Suddenly it was a 7-6 ball game. Colao got a fly out to center to end the inning with Summit still on top.
The NP sixth innig got off to a bad start with an infield error, a walk and a sacrifice bunt. That put runners on 2nd and third with one out. A popup made it two outs, but another walk loaded the bases. It was time to bring on Matt Moremile. He got the next batter to popup for the 3rd out. In the 7th inning he struck out the first batter, got the next batter to fly out to right and the final batter popup to Faris. On the fly to right Douglas made fine running catch. It was another good Moremile save.
