| Summit (5th seed) hosted South Plainfield (12th seed) in the first round of the Sectional tournament. Ben Lim was chosen to be the starting pitcher Summit took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st. Summit connected with 4 singles. Robby Faris and Grant Douglas got on base with singles. Andrew Miller and Tim Colao drove them in with singles. South Plainfield got an unearned run back in the 3rd. A summit error, a sacrifice bunt and a single made the score 2-1going into the 5th. Rain was threatening and if Summit could get through the top of the 5th they might win if the rain forced the game to stop. The inning started with a S Plainfield single. Three pitches later The heavens opened up and the game had to be postponed. Because of the NJSIAA Pitching rules Lim couldn’t pitch the next day. Will Schaffer took over the pitching duties with a man on base and a 2-1 count on the batter. Eventually the batter was walked. The turning point of the game came when the lead runner successfully stole 3rd base. That enabled South Plainfield to pull off a perfect suicide squeeze. That tied the score with only one out. Another walk left South Plainfield in position to attempt and complete a second well exacuated squeeze to take a 3-2 lead. The inning ended with a strike out, but the damage had been done.
Matt Moremile pitched the last two inning wih only one base runner. Summit went down 1-2-3 in the 6th. With two out in the 7th Douglas singled but the next batter was out on a line drive to the left fielder,
