What a wonderful tonic for our players. Of course it was also just what the coaches and fans needed. Voorhees came to Summit with a 5-1 record, having only lost to Cranford in a close game. Summit battled the Vikings pretty even in the first half, holding a 14-13 lead. However, the 2nd half was dominated by Summit, out scoring Voorhees 24-3 to win going away.

Jake Froschauer had standout day. He rushed for 3 touchdowns and accumulated a Summit season high total of 175 yards on the ground. Matt Newman got the scoring started. The first time he touched the ball he ran 54 yards t0 give Summit the lead. Jack Johnson kicked the first of 5 extra and it was 7-0. John Armwood got the drive started when intercepted a pass at the Summit 15 and returned it to the 21.

Early in the 2nd quarter Voorhees completed a 71 yard (14 play) drive to tie the score. Summit got a wonderful opportunity when the Vikings fumbled at their 27 and Summit recovered. Five running plays later, one by Sam Zanelli and four by Froschauer, Summit regained the lead. However, on the Vikings next possession they connected on a 57 yard pass to score. They missed the extra point and the half ended 14-13.

Newman returen the 2nd half kickoff to the Summit 49. Froschauer covered the remaining 51 in one play and Summit was ahead for good. Voorhees managed a field goal on it next turn, but on the ensuing kickoff Newman returned the ball 43 yards to the Viking 42. On the next play Froschauer raced 42 yards and the score was 28-16. Just before the end of the 3rd quarter Johnson nailed a 35 yard Field Goal as insurance. Summit would score once more in the 4th quarter. Following a Summit penalty Froschauer covered 32 yards to the Viking 20. Four running plays by Robbie Faris put the ball in the end-zone. What a finish.
