Summit took on Hillside for the 3rd time this season after losing at Hillside and winning at Summit. The winner would advance in the Union County Tournament. Hillside started with a swarming defense that kept Summit off balance and force a surprising number of turnovers. However Summit managed eight point (4 by Alex Dadourian) to stay within one point at the end of the quarter. The pressure continued but both teams scored 12 points and Summit was still 1 down at the half.
Summit was different team after the break. They turned up the defensive heat and began to pull away. Xavier McCormak drained a pair of three’s and Chip Roriston added a FG and a 3-pointer to help Summit to a 9 point lead (41-32 after the third. Hillside made a move to lose the gap, but 7 points each from Will Schaffer and Roriston plus 6 from Paul Flanagan combined with a perfect 4 for 4 from the foul line by Wayne White allowed Summit to win by 14.
Roriston led with 14 points and 6 rebounds and Schaffer tallied 12 points.
Summit advances to take on Union on Tuesday at Union
