Summit vs. Gov. Livingston has traditionally been a hard fought battle and this was no exception. Led by Cassidy O’Malley’s 10 points, Summit carried a 21-19 lead in half time. Things were looking up for Summit when they assumed a 5 point lead late in the 3rd quarter. The situation turned sour when O’Malley was charged with a questionable blocking foul. She flipped the ball away and was charged with a technical foul.
Suddenly, O’Malley was in foul trouble with 4 fouls and GL could take 4 fouls shots and get the ball back. They made 3 of 4 from the foul line and quickly added a field goal as the quarter ended. The 5 point lead was gone and O’Malley was on the bench. GL took the lead early in the 4th quarter and maintained a one or two point lead.through most of the quarter. With 4 minutes remaining O’Malley returned to court. With 28 seconds on the clock GL hit a pair of free throws to make their lead 38-37. Summit worked the ball over the centerline and called time out to plan their final shot. GL assumed the play would involve O’Malley. Instead, Christina Richson got the ball for a 2 point shot. She scored with 1 second left. Thinking back to last year fans remembered the last season 3 by Richson that won the GL game.
