Summit fans were looking forward to taking on Cranford, one of NJ’s best baseball programs. They were treated to a splendid pitchers duel. Will Schaffer pitched his career best game. He gave up only 3 hits, no runs and struck out 10 batters. He left the mound after one out in the 7th because he was about to hit the 110 pitch limit.

Patrick Smolyn got the final 2 outs in the 7th. Cranford’s Graceffo was was also superb on the mound, allowing no runs and only 4 hits. Through the first 7 innings it was a great pitcher’s duel, tied 0-0 heading into extra innings.

Grant Douglas took over the pitching mound for the 8th inning. Sadly, he struggled, giving up 3 runs and was tagged with the loss.

In the bottom of the 8th Matt Moremile singled with one out. Greg Vlass followed with another single. A fielder’s choice and a Cranford error scored Moremile but that’s where it ended.
