Summit traveled to Elizabeth on probably the windiest day of the year. The wind was blowing out and Matt Murdock , as the first batter of the game, smashed a towering shot over the 30 ft high right field fence for a home run. The Summit fans felt that was good omen. Unfortunately, it was not. Elizabeth scored 3 runs in the 2nd and 4 runs in 3rd to take a 7-2 lead. Summit’s second a run in the top of the 3rd on a single by Will Schaffer and a double by Andrew Miller.
Summit closed the gap in the top of the 4th when Greg Vlass was walked and scored on a Murdock double. Murdock then scored on a single by Mutolo. That got Summit to within 3 , but Elizabeth would score runs in the 5th an 6th innings to put Summit down 9-4 after 6 innings.
Summit started the final inning with pinch hitter, Matt Moremile, getting on base via an error. He scored on a triple by Grant Douglas , who scored on a single by Miller. But that is as far as the rally would get.
Douglas started on the mound but was replaced by Kunal Sengupta after 1 2/3 innings. Sengupta pitched 2 1/3 innings and David Medina pitched the final 2 innings
