Summit played Gov. Livingston, clearly the strongest baseball program in Union County this year. Earlier in the season GL crushed the perennial powerhouse. Cranford.

Summit was not intimidated. and the Hilltopers were never behind until 5th inning, Summit scored first in the top of the 2nd off a double by Will Schaffer and a GL error. GL answered in the bottom of the inning. Summit again took the lead in the 4th. Schaffer led off with a single, moved to third on a double by Andrew Miller and scored on Matt Reddy’s sacrifice fly. That gave Summit a 2-1 lead.

In the 5th Trevor Mutolo walked, stole 2nd and moved to 3rd on a throwing error by the catcher. He scored on another error by the short stop.

Gov. Livingston added a run in the bottom of the fifth, so Summit took 3-2 tie into the bottom of the 5th inning. Pitcher Ben Lim began to struggle a bit as his pitch count began to approach 100. GL capitalized with 4 runs to grab a 6-3 lead. Grant Douglas came on in the 5th with 2 outs.

Summit got a final chance in the 7th when Matt Murdock singled to start the inning. With one out, Grant Douglas hit a towering shot to left field. It looked like it was going out, but the fielder took it at the wall. So the game ended 6-3.
