Summit opened its season against the usually strong Johnson. Ben Lim drew the starting pitching nod. Lim started slow but gained strength as the game went on. In fact, he set down Johnson in the 5th and 6th innings 1-2-3 with 3 strike outs. Patrick Smolyn relieved in the 7th inning without a hit and was credited with win.

Nevertheless, Summit entered the bottom of the 7th down 7-6. Matt Moremile pitch hit to start the 7th and drew a walk. Greg Vlass got on via an error. Matt Murdock hit a fly to left that popped out of the Johnson fielder glove allowing Moremile to score but Vlass was caught in a rundowm. That left Murdock on 1st with one out. Murdock used he speed to steal 2nd and get in scoring position. After a fly out to left, Grant Douglas stoked clean single to score Murdock and end the game.

Note: Summit fans were encouraged that Summit played error free ball. What’s more the Hilltoppers didn’t make single strikeout. Both bode well for the season.
