| After Summit’s 2nd inning The Hilltoppers had a 7-0 lead and things looked great. Summit hammered the Scotch Plains’ starter for 5 runs on 8 hits in the first inning. In Summit’s 2nd inning Scotch Plains handed Summit two more runs when they committed 5, that’s right 5, errors. Summit was hitless in the inning.
Scotch Plains closed the gap with 2 runs in the bottom of 2nd inning. The ceiling caved in on Summit in the bottom of the 3rd . A combination 5 hits, 2 walks, 2 hit batters, a couple of wild pitchs, a passed ball and a Summit error. All this with only one out and it sent Kunal Sengupta to the mound in relief. The inning ended with Scotch Plains holding an 11-7 lead.
Summit rallied for 4 runs in the 5th. Reddy was safe on fielder’s choice, Greg Vlass got on via an error. A single by Murdock drove in one run, a triple by Mutolo added 2 more and a single Douglas drove in the 4th run. Sadly Summit’s deficit grew back to 2 in the bottom of the 6th. Summit added a run in the 7th and had the bases loaded when the 3rd out ended the game.
