It was a bad day for the Summit pitching staff. They allowed a reasonable 8 hits to a big hiting team like Westfield. However they also put 11 batters on base via walks or hit batters. The final score was 8-3, but 6 of Westfield’s 8 runs came from runners that had been put on base by a walk or hit batter. Will Schaffer was the starting pitcher and the game was tied 3-3 starting the 5th inning. Schaffer turned over the pitching duties to Patrick Smolyn with a runner on first. Matt Moremile pitched the 6th inning and Kunal Sengupta covered the 7th inning.
Summit’s first run came in the 2nd inning. Andrew Miller led off with a single, and he stole second. He scored on a single by Moremile. Summit added two more runs in the 3rd when Westfield had a mini meltdown. Matt Murdock was safe on an error. Grant Douglas was hit by the pitcher. Murdock stole 3rd and he and Douglas scored on a Westfield throwing error.
