Summit entered the game as heavy underdogs against Johnson, whose record was 15-1. What is more, Johnson had a player, George Visconti, who would break Johnson’s all-time school scoring record during the game. It interesting to note that the previous record holder was Kevin Boyle the legendary St. Patricks coach.
Summit came on strong and ended the half tied 37-37. Chip Roriston and Malcolm Sidebottom each contributed 10 points in the half. The third quarter ended on an Eric Baier 3-pointer and Summit was down by a point (55-54) starting the final 8 minutes.
There was a stretch in the 4th quarter when four calls, that could have gone either way, all went in favor of Johnson. During that period Johnson pulled away and Summit could never get closer than 68-65. All in all, it was a very exciting game.
Roriston led the Summit scoring with 22 points (6 rebounds) and Will Schaffer had 16 points. Sidebottom added 10 points.
