Summit started 1st quarter well with seven points each by Will Schaffer and Malcolm Sidebottom. However the next two quarters were dominated by New Providence. They outscored Summit 31-18. As a result Summit found themselves down 45-34 entering the final 8 minutes. The only thing that kept Summit hat close was Schaffer’s 11 additional point in those 16 minutes.
Summit was in a deep hole as they started the final 8 minutes of play. The Hilltoppers turned up the defensive pressure and New Providence responded with turnovers. Summit slowly reduced the margin. The charge was led by Schaffer’s 13 points and Finbar McCormick’s 9 points. All totaled Summit scored 30 points in the 4th quarter to nail down the big comeback. Summit was great from the foul line in that amazing quarter, draining 12 of 15 free throws.
Schaffer finished with a season high 31 points, almost half of Summit’s total. Sidebottom was in double digits with 11 points. Schaffer and Jackson Tyler each had 6 rebounds.
