Summit had lost a pitchers duel to New Providence earlier in the season so the Hilltoppers were out for revenge. Summit fell behind 2-1 in the first inning and the score didn’t change until Summit came to bat in the 7th needing a run to keep their hopes alive. Justin Weiss led off with a single and moved to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Greg Vlass. A single by Will Hellings drove in Weiss and send the game to extra innings.
In the top of the 8th. Emory Carlson drew a walk and moved to 3rd on a double by Trevor Mutolo. Andrew Miller singled to drive in the go ahead run. Micheal Competiello Singled in the insurance run.
New Providence led off the bottom of the 8th with a single but was forced out on a fielder’s choice. A fly out to left field was followed by another single , putting runners on 1st and third with 2 outs. Another fielder’s choice ended the game
Will Hellings started and gave up only 2 runs on two hits in the 4 innings he pitched. Matt Reddy pitched the final 4 innings, blanking the Pioneers on 3 hits and was credited with the “W”.
